RISING EARLY

And he rose early while it was still dark and went out to pray. The darkness focuses on the early morning stars while the earthly surroundings are not visible, and therefore, the wonder of the universe beyond. “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God and the word was God. "All things were made, and without him nothing was made that was made.”

SURVEYING THE SURROUNDS

As the sun rises, the focus of his day shifts, and he surveys the scenery all around for his daily work. He surveys the early morning sunrise and the stirring community and wonders, who is there to minister to today. He is moved to prayer to listen to the voice of the Father who guides him along the way, for he is the servant of the Lord

IN A RAVINE

He finds a deep ravine and delights in the refreshing pond for him to focus the daily reflection. The water takes him to new depths to ponder and the pressing inner issues that lie heavily upon his heart. He is engaged with the divine and is drawn to particular issues for the day.

TEMPTATIONS

He is lead into the wilderness where he is tempted by the devil. He is a man with the same issues that every man, woman, and child is challenged with. The decisions that must be made and acted upon for the battle with the ego are just as real for him as anyone else. The turning of stones into bread was not adequate; the search for political power is not the way of God, nor the spectacular belief that he could bypass the laws of nature, and jump from the temple spire. How many other temptations must he deal with? The word of God is his central focus. He has harmonised the conscious and the unconscious.

MOUNT OF TRANSFIGURATION

He journeys up Mt Tabor, with his three special companions for the moment of transfiguration. The men are tired by the time they reach the summit and sit down for a rest. Jesus wanders around, entering into the quietness of someone moving into a solitude of seeming disconnection. A cloud rolls in and covers the mount. It soon takes on a quality of its own, and the disciples are lost in a euphoria when the words are pronounced, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased, listen to him”.  For a timeless moment, life has stood still and finally ends as if they wake from a deep sleep. They follow Jesus down the mountain, not saying a word. The silence is broken, approaching the plain below with Jesus declaring, “The Son of Man must suffer and die, and after three days will again rise from the dead.”
